Oftentimes, I place an object of relevance on an empty chair to have its portrait painted. While “sitting,” the inanimate object comes alive and we share each other’s company throughout the painting session.
I discovered this approach after my friend and muse, Skylar moved. I started putting objects on the chair I knew she liked, making paintings of these scenes and then sending her the images via text— tempting her to come back. I found the tactic worked for the paintings and brought me some welcomed humor to my sense of loneliness.
